Statewide Transfer Articulation Conference
Sponsored by the Iowa Community College Arts & Science Administrators and Regent Universities Admissions Offices
Hosted by the Liaison Advisory Committee on Transfer Students
Date: February 12th, 2010
Location: DMACC, Newton Campus
Tenative topics available:
I. ED100 Standards
This session will explore the ED100 standards and their relationships to INTASC and NAEYC standards. The discussion will also include ideas on how to assess student outcomes effectively to demonstrate meeting standards.
II. Developing High Quality Field Experiences
This session will examine how different institutions establish field experiences that are related to in-class work, that provide diverse experiences, and how to provide good supervision for our students. The session will also explore how we can supplement course work when field sites are limited in quantity and/or quality.
III. Guiding Challenging Behaviors
Challenging behaviors appear in both our students and the children they see in practicum experiences. This session will look at tools for reporting and resolving poor student dispositions at our higher education institutions. In addition, we will explore what community colleges are offering about guidance of children's challenging behaviors, and how four-year institutions can build on that learning when students transfer.
In addition there will be a keynote speaker. I don't believe formal articulation agreements will be a result of this meeting. However, it helps us lay the ground work towards better articulation. As we have learned in our own work, the opportunity to meet and build relationships is critical both for improving our programs and making progress toward articulation.
